We are excited to bring you another small business feature, this week we are featuring Katie from Rose & Wells Creative.
We hope you love reading these small business features as much as we do. At Healthy Dash of Sass it is important to our core to bring awareness to small business owners not only to showcase the amazing things they are building but to continue to give other people inspiration to go after their dreams as well. With that being said let’s dive in our Q&A with Katie from Rose & Wells Creative
Excited to learn more about you! What is your first name and your business?
- Katie | Brand & Web Designer, Rose & Wells Creative
Please tell us a little about yourself?
- I’m Katie, I’m 35 years young, and the founder of Rose + Wells Creative. I’m a bad ass rocker at heart, a Sagittarius, with a creative soul that was always meant to pursue design. I currently live in Massachusetts with my husband and three cats (Bacon, Eggs, & Ham!)
What inspired you to start your business?
- I spent 12 years of my life working in a retail environment which became a corporate role as a Print and Marketing Manager (but I’ve been around design and branding for what feels like forever – if you also count the endless nights spent coding my own websites from scratch in high school or sprucing up my LiveJournal and Myspace) When I graduated high school, I went right into that role and also pursued a degree in graphic design (full time work and full time school). Although my role wasn’t fully design based, I was responsible for leading a team and managing sales – at some point (which for most was 2020 when covid hit), I’d had enough and wanted to go off on my own. 2020 was also the year I lost my father (4 days in) – and I knew that he always wanted me to do what I love, I wasn’t going to stand for something I wasn’t truly happy doing, so I put in my two weeks and began my own business (originally Katie DeFlumere Design). I started designing logos and evolved into branding and strategy with the addition of websites.
What is one thing you would like people to know about your business?
- I think this goes without saying, but we all start somewhere. To bring it to where it is now required lots of learning, exploring, expanding, and that will never stop. I invest in myself so that I can be better every single day. So that I can provide an expertise that is my own, with the confidence in the services I provide.
Can you share a fun fact about yourself?
- I own a ’67 Camaro and currently live in and am renovating my childhood home with my husband.
List anything coming up for your business!
- I recently launched my shop called ‘The Digital Closet’ – currently with 3 Showit Website Templates for the DIYer (I plan to add more this year) and I also have a new service ‘Website in a Week’ – a quick turn option for those looking to launch their brand and website without the long-term timeline and high price tag. You can find all the details on my website.
Where can people find you?
What is one piece of advice you would give someone looking to start their own business?
- Launch without perfection – you’ll always be evolving. Get yourself inside a community of other creatives and business owners early, the support from others in your position is unmatched – and you’d be amazed at how much you can really learn and grow from others if you just ask/chat with them.
